Helping my Child at School

Helping my Child

There are many ways to help and support your child at school. Obviously supporting your child with their homework is very important.  For one term each class has Shared Home learning tasks. Your child will have complete a range of tasks probably related to their class topic. Follow these links to see some examples, P1, P4, . The link to this leaflet on homework may be of some help. For P1  parents there are leaflets for both maths and language to help you support your child in their first few months at school. Follow these links to find out more. Language outside/inside and Maths outside/inside. The link to this powerpoint may also provide some useful information on the curriculum which will help you support your child.

You can of course help and support the school and your child in other ways. We have a very successful PTA, (Parent Teacher Association) which organises fundraising events which are both fun and provide extra funding for the school. Every year the PTA hold a very successful Summer and Christmas Fairs. This year a very successful and enjoyable Bingo Night was held in the parish hall. On Parents Night the PTA sold second hand books donated by the pupils. At Easter an Easter quiz and word search is organised. All the money raised by the PTA is used to enhance the experience of all the pupils in the school, Discos, Christmas and Easter treats, money to support school outings, money to help fund the purchase of Smartboards for the school and many more things. You can help by either joining the PTA or helping out at the Summer and Christmas Fairs or by coming along and supporting the events organised by the PTA. You can find out more about the events which the PTA are planning and their work by reading the minutes of their meetings.

Another way to support your child and the work of the school is by joining the Parent Council. There are meetings every 6 weeks. The Parent Council represents parents in a more formal way. They are consulted on the curriculum and the School Improvement Plan. Mrs Kelly the Head Teacher is there to support and advise and there is also a teacher representative.
